Business Analytics Consultant (Cognos Analytics – BI)

Location: UK wide, with initial significant project in Swindon.

Salary: £40,000 to £50,000 pa, dependent on experience.

We’re urgently looking for a Business Analytics Consultant to develop the data management and reporting outputs for our Workforce Management Solution.

The role requires preferably over 3 years’ experience and you should ideally come from a consulting background, although this is not essential.

You must have significant stakeholder management expertise and be highly adept at interfacing with the business and understanding the commercial objectives of your work. As the successful candidate, you must also be able to work on your own and without supervision. You should have excellent communication skills and be able to adapt where needed to both technical and business people.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Designing and implementing Cognos Analytics solutions.
  • Development of ETL and data integration processes.
  • Analysing the requirements for data structures to support reporting and analytics
  • Designing and implementing the appropriate data structure to support reporting and analytics
  • Building Cognos Framework on top of structured data to simplify Cognos Reporting.
  • End-user report development, from requirement gathering to design, build, test, deploy and documentation.
  • Support and diagnosis on existing BI installations.
  • Building and maintaining good customer relationships.
  • Assessing and reporting development progress against plans.

Favoured Technical Skills:

  • Experience in at least some of the following BI tools: IBM Cognos 10/11 suite, IBM Cognos Framework Manager, IBM Cognos Report Studio, IBM Cognos Analysis Studio, IBM Cognos Workspace Advanced.
  • Database Skills: SQL Server
  • Knowledge of ETL tools would be helpful, i.e. Microsoft SSIS.
  • Experience in modelling data for reporting and analytics using Kimball-Style Dimensional Modelling techniques
  • Ability to self-manage and work without direct supervision.

Systems Administrator
(Database & BI – Cognos Analytics)

Location: Barrachd office in Edinburgh

Salary: £35,000 to £40,000 pa, dependent on experience.

We’re looking for a System Administrator to join our fast-growing analytics team. As our System Administrator you’ll be responsible for effective provisioning, installation/configuration, operation, and maintenance of a business critical software solution that we supply as a service to a large number of clients.

In this role, you will participate in technical research and development to enable continuing innovation within the infrastructure. You’ll also ensure that system hardware, operating systems, software systems, and related procedures adhere to organisational values, including contracted terms and conditions, enabling customers to achieve maximum benefit from the solution/service.

The role requires, preferably, over 3 years’ relevant experience. You must also have significant stakeholder management expertise and be highly adept at interfacing with the business and understanding the commercial objectives of your work. As the successful candidate, you must be able to work without supervision and be willing to make occasional trips to different customer sites too. Furthermore, your communication skills will be top notch, allowing you to adapt, when needed, to both technical and business people.

The role sits within our fast expanding Social Media Analytics team, which is devoted to assisting our reputable, blue-chip clients across multiple sectors.

Key skills and responsibilities:

Systems management

  • How to manage issues and identify resolution paths (i.e. who can fix it)
  • Monitoring and managing performance
  • Database management, backups
  • Infrastructure – patching, security, supplier liaison
  • Issue prioritisation and escalation

Business Intelligence Tools (ideally IBM Cognos, but any will help)

  • Basic data analysis
  • Report writing
  • Assisting customers with data requirements

Data management

  • Understanding pricing and volumes
  • Monitoring usage against contracts
  • Monitoring and managing supplier updates

Support

  • Helping the team when required / call answering
  • Participation in 7/7/7 rotas
  • Out of hours on call rota
  • 3rd line, help when others can’t!
  • Working in an agile/devops environment

Essential

  • Team spirit and a ‘Can do’ attitude.
  • Rapid technical problem solving

Senior Data Warehouse & Analytics Consultant 

Location: UK wide – with work on client sites

Job Type: Permanent

We’re looking to hire a Data Warehouse & Analytics Consultant. As one of the fastest growing Cognos Business Partners in the UK, you’ll work with our team to help our reputable, blue-chip clients overcome their information management challenges and unlocking the capability of their data.

What you will do:

  • Data Warehouse Solutions Architect experience. Designing, implementing and supporting Database solutions.
  • Full project lifecycle, from requirement gathering to design, build, test, deploy and documentation.
  • QA capabilities and diagnosis on existing database installations.
  • Building and maintaining good customer relationships. Significant experience of challenging stakeholder management.
  • Ability to self-manage and work without direct supervision on customer sites.
  • Ability to lead colleagues and small teams.

Your skills should include experience in (some of):

  • IBM Cognos Data Manager/Decision Stream, IBM Infosphere Datastage.
  • IBM Cognos 8/10/11 suite, IBM Cognos Report Studio, IBM Cognos Framework Manager, IBM Cognos Analysis Studio, IBM Cognos Metric Manager, IBM Cognos Query Studio, IBM Cognos Workspace Advanced.
  • Database Skills: SQL Server, Oracle, DB2.
  • Development of ETL and data integration processes.
