What makes a Champion? You have to be the very best at what you do, right? A leader in your field, perhaps? Maybe it’s the perseverance to battle through every setback until you reach your goal?  Could a fully stocked trophy cabinet help? Well, when it comes to analytics, the bar has been set high.

IBM’s Champions programme aims to recognise and reward the experts who go ‘above and beyond’ to support and mentor others, to help them get the most out of IBM software, solutions, and services.

As well as displaying a real expertise in IBM technology, IBM’s Analytics Champions are true enthusiasts and advocates.

These individuals are a rare breed, though. In last year there were just 35 Champions within the United Kingdom – and just over 480 among 6 different categories worldwide.

So, it says a lot about the quality of the Barrachd consultancy team that we can now boast not one, but two IBM Analytics Champions.

IBM Champion

Following the rigorous selection process (around 2000 nominations were received), we’re delighted that Dale Michael has joined fellow Barrachd senior analytics consultant Nick Waters on the coveted roster of IBM Champions for 2019.

From the mass of nominations, 635 IBM Champions were selected worldwide with:

  • 39 countries represented
  • 9 business areas represented, including Data & Analytics (31%), Cloud (22%), Collaboration Solutions (15%), Power Systems (9%), Storage (7%), IBM Z (6%), Watson IoT (4%), Blockchain (2%), and Security (3%)
  • 65% renewing; 35% new Champions

So, a huge congratulations to both Nick and Dale!

Last year we spoke to Nick about what it means to be an analytics champion. So, this year, we caught top with our newest Champion, Dale…

Dale speaking at our recent Cognos User Group

“My product specialty is Planning Analytics – and IBM Cognos TM1,” says Dale. “This, in my opinion, is the best tool on the market for planning and forecasting, and has some really distinguishing features when compared to similar products.

“I have worked with complimentary and competitive systems in the past and Planning Analytics really stands out.”

While everyone has the opportunity to become a Champion, it takes dedication, enthusiasm, willingness and, of course, the capability to share knowledge and experiences. And as part of the exclusive community, champions are helped to impart even more knowledge and know-how.

“Through access to exclusive IBM communities and development teams, I’m able to enhance my knowledge, as well as the people around me, as to what’s current and new at IBM, including new features, fixes, and ideas. It’s my aim to transfer this knowledge to my team and customers, and ensure that the community around me is able to improve accordingly.”

Dale talking at a recent staff training event

“It’s a great achievement for us to be able to show two consultants on the list of Champions – I’m only aware of two other consultancy houses that have more than one. It indicates that Barrachd has the right staff in place, and that the right skills are being developed.

“We constantly ensure that our team members’ skills are aligned to the very best in the industry. This reinforces our belief that our clients are getting some of the best technical skills available – combined with the leading thinking. We’re all champs here, though – we always aim to go above and beyond what’s asked of us, we always ensure that our clients get an enhanced consultancy experience that they just can’t get elsewhere.”

How can we help you? Our Champions are ready to help with all your analytics needs.

We would really like to keep you up to date with future Barrachd news. But we know that no one wants to be contacted with irrelevant, self-promoting spam. So if you tick the box, we promise to only ever send you (very) occasional updates on news that we think will interest you, invites to exclusive Barrachd events and webinars, and relevant offers that could help drive your data advantage. And, of course, you can opt out at any time if you change your mind.
